A large number of clues to unreleased iPhones, Macs, iPads, home devices and audio products were found in code for Apple's next operating system. Ahead of Apple's new product event expected in September, the outline of its next lineup has come into view.
On Aug. 18 local time, IT outlet Engadget reported that internal codenames believed to point to multiple unreleased products were identified in the code for Apple's macOS Tahoe 27.6 release candidate. It appeared to include references spanning product lines such as iPhones, home devices, Beats, Vision Pro, Apple TV, iPads and Macs, as well as previously known camera-equipped AirPods.
The most notable item is the next iPhone lineup. Codenames such as V62, V63, V64, V67 and V68 appeared in the code. They are being raised as possibly linked to iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 and iPhone Ultra, respectively. In particular, some observations said V68 could point to a foldable iPhone that had previously been mentioned only in rumours.
The next iPhone lineup is likely to be unveiled at Apple's usual September new product event, but Apple has not yet announced an official schedule.
Codes related to home devices were also found. J490 and B525 are believed to point to Apple's new home hub and a next-generation HomePod mini, respectively. The new home hub is said to include a roughly 7-inch display and provide a dashboard similar to the iPhone's StandBy mode, alongside Apple's new homeOS. A possible release this autumn has been discussed, and it could be a product aimed at expanding Apple's push into the smart home market in earnest.
A next-generation HomePod mini is also believed to be included in the code. The new product has been discussed as potentially applying an updated Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
The audio product line also appeared in the code. References believed to point to two new Beats headphone models and next-generation AirPods Pro were found, along with the previously known camera-equipped AirPods.
Products related to spatial computing and TV were also included. N109 could point to the next Vision Pro, and ATVRemote1 was mentioned as a code that could be linked to a new Apple TV remote. If it is an actual new product, it could be released alongside a new Apple TV.
New codes were also found for iPads and Macs. J510 is believed to be linked to a next-generation iPad mini that is said to feature an OLED display and an A19 Pro chip. The Mac-related entries also included references to next MacBook Pro and iMac models. Among the MacBook Pro items, a code believed to indicate a model featuring Apple's next M6 chip was also identified.
This code analysis does not mean entirely new information. Talk of releases for the iPhone 18 series, a foldable iPhone, the next iPad mini and a home hub has already emerged multiple times.
Still, the fact that code that could be linked to those products was found inside an Apple operating system lends weight to existing expectations. Internal codenames do not necessarily indicate actual products to be released. They could be test codes used during development.
Even so, this leak is drawing attention as a clue that Apple is preparing a fairly broad range of products for the second half. With items spanning iPhones, home devices, AirPods and Beats, Vision Pro, Apple TV, iPads and Macs spotted at once, a view is emerging that Apple's autumn new product announcements this year could be richer than ever.
Market attention is now focused on which of these products Apple will unveil at a September event. A key point is whether the code believed to indicate a foldable iPhone and the home hub that would support Apple's entry into the smart home market will appear as actual products.
