Veteran trader Peter Brandt (피터 브랜트) said he has little intention of holding XRP, adding that he would immediately convert it into bitcoin even if he came into possession of a large amount of XRP.

On Aug. 16, blockchain outlet U.Today reported that Brandt drew a line in strong language on X, formerly Twitter, after reactions took issue with his views on XRP.

“Are you kidding? Who cares about XRP,” Brandt wrote. He then explained his trading approach, saying, “I make all bets in futures,” and that he “does not place much meaning on holding spot itself.” He also said he had no interest in holding half a million XRP and would convert it to BTC immediately if he had it.

The remarks came as XRP again failed to hold the $1 level. XRP recently traded around $0.9992 and has fallen below $1, seen as a psychological support level. Based on CoinGecko, XRP is 72.6 percent below its all-time high of $3.65 recorded on July 17, 2025.

XRP recently fell below $1 for the first time since November 2024. At the current price, it is also lower than RLUSD, a stablecoin Ripple launched at the end of 2024. As XRP’s weakness continues, Brandt’s negative view is again drawing market attention.

Brandt has been seen as a leading XRP critic. He has clashed with the XRP community several times, and in December 2025 he wrote of XRP and silver bulls, “There is no group of traders more easily fooled than this.” In October that year, he used even harsher language toward XRP supporters, criticising them as the most immature and unprofessional group on X.

Earlier, Brandt compared XRP to the Ford Edsel, one of the auto industry’s notable failures. In June 2020 he described XRP as a “manipulated fraud,” and in July that year he likened the relationship between Ripple and XRP to that between the U.S. Federal Reserve and the dollar. At the time, he also claimed Ripple was effectively the entity absorbing XRP supply.

Brandt has not consistently held only the same stance. In late 2024, when XRP was surging, he showed an unusually friendly attitude toward the token. In November 2024, he said XRP had broken above its 2023 high and mentioned a move out of a large consolidation range.

But that bullish view did not last long. In March 2025, Brandt warned that XRP could slide to $1.07 if a bearish head-and-shoulders pattern were completed. After XRP fell back to around $1, the market is watching Brandt’s earlier warning together with the current price moves.

The core of the remarks goes beyond simple criticism, showing where his capital preference lies. Brandt drew a line by saying he would prioritise converting to bitcoin over holding XRP, and XRP is again being tested at the psychological $1 level. As a result, a key focus remains whether XRP can regain $1 and what impact Brandt’s criticism could have on market sentiment beyond community debate.
