Woori Bank has introduced a service that allows customers to pay additional fees that arise after an overseas remittance on mobile without visiting a branch.

Woori Bank said on Aug. 14 it will implement a "non-face-to-face foreign exchange fee payment service".

In the overseas remittance process, additional fees can arise during processing besides the fee paid at the time of the initial remittance. Previously, customers had to visit a branch to pay those fees.

With the new service, individual customers using the Woori WON Banking app can check the amount due in the app's "overseas remittance fee payment" menu. They can then complete security authentication and pay the fee from a won-denominated deposit and withdrawal account in their own name.

Customers can also pay cable charges, which are communication costs incurred when transmitting a remittance message, in the same way.

Currencies eligible for non-face-to-face payment cover 10 major currencies including the U.S. dollar (USD), euro (EUR) and Japanese yen (JPY).

Kang Eom-pil (강엄필), head of Woori Bank's foreign exchange business department, said customers can now pay fees that arise during overseas remittances without visiting a branch. He said the bank will continue to improve convenience for customers' foreign exchange transactions by expanding fee types and channels available through non-face-to-face service.
