Cowintech said on Aug. 13 it has decided to change its name to Cowin Robotics to make its robot business a core growth driver.

The change aims to transform the company into an intelligent robot integration platform business. Cowintech plans to restructure its business away from supplying standalone robots toward a model that encompasses hardware, control software, integrated monitoring and on-site system integration. The change will be finalized after approval at an extraordinary shareholders meeting.

The company has internalized its own technology, from hardware such as robot modules, bodies and sensors to software for perception, decision-making, driving and control. Since February, it has reorganized into a robot-centered integrated operating structure and strengthened the foundation for technology development. The company said robot business revenue from mobile robots (AMR), industrial robots and assembly robots posted a meaningful level in the first half.

Going forward, it will set key strategies including Physical AI-based robot intelligence, strengthening full-stack robot solutions, expanding the robotics value chain, and entering advanced manufacturing and global markets. It plans to use data and experience accumulated in industrial sites for robot learning and verification, and to advance both robot intelligence and on-site stability.

Choi Hyun-soon (최현순), chief executive of Cowintech, said, "This is a strategic shift to clearly establish our identity as a robotics company, based on robot technology proven in industrial sites and full-stack manufacturing capabilities." He added, "We will grow beyond a leading domestic mobile robot company into an intelligent robot integration platform company that integrates and applies humanoids and intelligent robots in the field."
