Trump Media & Technology Group has halted plans to set up a CRO-based cryptocurrency reserve company and related digital-asset businesses it had pursued with Crypto.com. Blockchain outlet Decrypt reported on Aug. 7 that Trump Media mutually agreed with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition to end the “Trump Media Group CRO Strategy,” existing service contracts and plans for related digital-asset products.

The three companies cited “current market conditions” and “changed business and stakeholder priorities” as reasons for the suspension. The existing “Truth Social Fund” ETF will be maintained.

The project originally envisioned creating a company that licensed the Trump Media name, centered on Crypto.com’s Cronos blockchain and CRO token. When it was disclosed last year, the three companies said it would become the first and largest publicly listed CRO reserve company, accumulating CRO and generating additional revenue from it.

Trump Media also dropped its plan to directly integrate a prediction market into Truth Social. Instead, it decided to pursue a marketing agreement to promote Crypto.com’s prediction-market product to Truth Social users.

Interim chief executive Kevin McGurn said both the digital-asset reserve company market and the prediction-market business had become crowded over the past year. He also said it was time for the two sides to go their separate ways as staking became less important to Crypto.com.

CRO fell sharply after the news and traded around $0.05. Its market value was about $2.4 billion.

Cooperation between Trump Media and Crypto.com has expanded over the past year. Trump Media said in October 2025 it would integrate Crypto.com-based prediction-market service “Truth Predict” into Truth Social, and in December that year it disclosed plans to set up a CRO reserve company with Yorkville Acquisition. In February 2026, Crypto.com said it donated $35 million to pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. over the prior year. In the same month, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency conditionally approved Crypto.com’s application for a national trust bank charter.

Democratic pushback is also continuing. Earlier this week, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Richard Blumenthal urged the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate U.S. President Donald Trump’s memecoin.
