Kenya has launched a blockchain-based education verification system that has uploaded more than 30 million academic records to the Avalanche network. Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 3 that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) introduced the system to reduce forged academic certificates and make verification easier.
KNEC and Avalanche said the platform is intended to address thousands of forged academic certificates reported annually in Kenya. Employers, universities and other institutions can use the system to verify academic records on-chain. It is also difficult to forge or tamper with the records.
The platform is already in operation, but KNEC and Avalanche did not disclose how widely students, employers and educational institutions are using the system.
The rollout is cited as one example of Avalanche use in the public sector. Avalanche has expanded its use beyond decentralised finance and digital assets into government record verification.
