A service has been launched that lets pedestrians reach their destination by following the screen like a driving navigation app. TMap Mobility said on Sunday it is launching its “walking route guidance” service, in which the display moves automatically based on the user’s direction of travel.

With existing map apps, users had to figure out their current location and direction themselves, then zoom in or rotate the map. The new service switches the screen automatically to match the direction of movement. It tells users in advance when it is time to turn a corner, and if they leave the route it suggests a new optimal route in real time.

It is also linked to the place recommendation feature “Where to go.” It recommends walkable places within 1 km of the current location, and immediately switches to walking route guidance once a place is selected. It also connects with the trip record and management service “Move Log,” allowing users to build a visit history through “place check-in” after arriving at a destination.

A TMap Mobility official said, “As a leader in vehicle navigation, we have expanded TMap’s competitiveness into the pedestrian domain.” The official added, “We will continue to advance services across the entire journey, covering both driving and walking, to provide users with a new experience across their everyday travel.”
