[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee] Shinhan Financial Group is running a practical training and employment support programme for young people seeking jobs in finance IT and artificial intelligence (AI).

Shinhan Financial said on Monday it will recruit trainees for the 'Shinhan Career Next' programme through Aug. 4.

Shinhan Career Next is a finance IT talent development course under the K-New Deal Academy, a youth jobs initiative overseen by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Shinhan DS will operate the programme. Training will focus on practical capabilities needed for finance IT and AI agent development.

Applicants must be unemployed youths aged 15 to 34 who want jobs in finance IT and AI. A total of 40 people will be selected for three months of training.

The curriculum includes job training in programming, databases, financial engineering and AI transformation. It also includes employment lectures, career counselling and on-the-job training (OJT) through field-based experience.

Mentoring and a hackathon will also be held with digital experts from Shinhan Financial Group. Outstanding hackathon projects will receive separate awards.

Trainees will receive full tuition support and a monthly training allowance of 600,000 won. Those who obtain a digital or finance-related certificate during the programme will also receive a one-time 100,000 won bonus.

A Shinhan Financial official said, "We will expand employment support programmes so young people can build practical capabilities spanning AI and finance."
