[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] AI coding startup Cognition has acquired Fork, a text-based AI assistant operated by The Interaction Company of California.
TechCrunch reported on July 24 that Cognition plans to apply Fork’s conversation style and personality to its coding AI service Devin. Fork will use Cognition’s models and infrastructure to improve response speed and stability, TechCrunch said.
Unlike typical tool-type AI, Fork is a service that chats like texting with a friend. It is characterised by responses that mix in slang and humor.
Cognition believes this interaction style can boost Devin’s competitiveness. Its strategy is to make Devin a coding agent closer to a colleague than a simple piece of software.
Fork launched in March 2026. It is available on iMessage, SMS, Telegram and WhatsApp. Its use cases include travel, health, finance, schedule management and education, and it is widely used for tasks such as email management, reminders and organising to-do lists, TechCrunch said.
