Woori Investment Securities' second-quarter net profit this year fell from the previous quarter as expanded credit loss costs offset rises in interest and non-interest income. First-half cumulative net profit still rose more than 47 percent from a year earlier.

Woori Investment Securities' second-quarter net profit was 11 billion won, down 21.4 percent from the previous quarter.

Net operating revenue over the same period was 76 billion won, up 8.6 percent from the previous quarter. Interest income rose 17.2 percent to 34 billion won, while non-interest income increased 4.9 percent to 43 billion won.

Credit loss costs, however, rose 88.9 percent from the previous quarter to 17 billion won. Selling, general and administrative expenses also increased 2.2 percent to 46 billion won, weighing on profitability.

Profit before corporate tax was 13 billion won, down 23.5 percent from the previous quarter.

First-half cumulative net profit was 25 billion won, up 47.1 percent from the same period a year earlier. Net operating revenue rose 58.7 percent to 146 billion won, and profit before corporate tax increased 93.3 percent to 29 billion won.

First-half interest income rose 17.0 percent from a year earlier to 62 billion won. Non-interest income jumped 110.0 percent to 84 billion won, leading the improvement in results.

Within non-interest income, corporate finance (IB) fees and related items were tallied at 49 billion won, while securities-related gains stood at 35 billion won.

The number of retail customers also increased. As of the end of the first half, retail customers totalled 781,000, up 15.8 percent from 675,000 in the same period a year earlier.
