AI computing technology company Nvidia said that at an AI summit being held in San Francisco this week, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) and leading South Korean business figures and researchers will meet with Nvidia and ecosystem partners to explore the direction of AI development in South Korea.

As a first step, Nvidia and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on Thursday they will establish a joint AI research centre at KAIST Graduate School of AI in Seoul to advance agentic AI in South Korea.

Through the cooperation, the two sides plan to build an academic AI research programme by combining Nvidia's full-stack AI expertise, Nvidia Nemotron open models and the computing capabilities of Nvidia AI Cloud partners with KAIST science talent, which Nvidia described as one of Asia's leading research-focused universities.

A day ahead of the AI summit, CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황), SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won (최태원) and officials from SK Hynix, SK Telecom and Nvidia held a dinner in Woodside, California, and reaffirmed the partnership between the two companies.

Nvidia and SK announced in June they would expand cooperation to jointly develop memory for Nvidia platforms spanning AI infrastructure, personal AI and physical AI. SK Telecom announced in June plans to build AI infrastructure to underpin next-generation AI innovation, including physical AI and robotics.
