Stamps will be issued to mark the 50th anniversary of Robot Taekwon V.

The postal service under the Ministry of Science and ICT said on July 23 it will issue 700,000 commemorative Robot Taekwon V stamps on July 29. Robot Taekwon V will be used as the main character at the 2026 Korea Stamp Exhibition, to be held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul from July 29 to Aug. 2.

The commemorative stamps feature major characters such as Hooni, Young-hee, Dr Kim, Dr Yoon and the tin-can robot, along with various depictions of Robot Taekwon V. They were also produced in a round ttaekji form that evokes childhood nostalgia to enhance their collectible value.

Robot Taekwon V drew strong box-office success when it opened in 1976. It later released several sequels and led a heyday for Korean animation. In the 2000s, it underwent film restoration work and returned to audiences once again with a digital restored version that reopened in 2007.

Park In-hwan (박인환), head of the postal service, said he hopes it will help people reflect on Robot Taekwon V's 50-year history, share memories together and serve as a medium for enjoyable communication across generations.
