Samsung Electronics is discussing a plan to invest hundreds of millions of euros in French AI startup Mistral AI, the Financial Times reported on July 22, citing sources.
The report said the investment is part of a new funding round in which Mistral is seeking a valuation of about 20 billion euros ($22.81 billion). Samsung could invest about 1 billion euros in the round, the FT said. Sweden-based investment firm EQT's Scaleup Europe Fund is also discussing participation in the round.
News that Samsung is considering an investment in Mistral came after Microsoft said it had agreed to invest billions of dollars in Mistral's computing infrastructure in Europe. The contract between the two companies also includes expanding the supply of Mistral technology through Microsoft's U.S. cloud and software business network.
