[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that connects AI models with external data and services, will be updated next week. TechCrunch reported on July 20 that the core of the update is changing how session IDs are handled to reduce the burden of operating MCP servers at scale.
The change may not be large for end users, but it could affect operating efficiency for companies and developers, TechCrunch said.
MCP supports safe access by AI models to external resources such as calendars, databases and internal tools. Developers do not need to build a separate integration structure for each connection.
The new version supports easier server operations and maintenance, and can also help lower the costs of large-scale operations.
The update is more about refining AI infrastructure standards than adding standout new features, TechCrunch said.
