Reuters reported on Wednesday that the U.S. House Judiciary Committee has released an interim report saying the South Korean government has continued to discriminate against U.S. company Coupang.

The report said investigations by the South Korean government rose sharply after the Coupang data breach case. The committee said this is discriminatory toward U.S. and foreign companies and directly violates a recently concluded bilateral trade agreement.

A spokesperson for South Korea's foreign ministry rejected the report as one-sided. The spokesperson said the government had communicated with the committee for months but it reflected only Coupang's claims, adding that allegations of discrimination against Coupang and other U.S. companies are not true.

The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee said more than 10 South Korean government agencies began dozens of investigations unrelated to the incident into Coupang after last year's Coupang data breach. The report said authorities made more than 4,000 document requests and conducted more than 652 interviews with Coupang employees.

Coupang said in a statement, "We regret that the situation has led to an investigation by the House Judiciary Committee," and added, "We will seek constructive solutions so that we can return to serving as a bridge that strengthens the South Korea-U.S. alliance."
