Korea Post plans to honour the dedication of soldiers and police officers who died in the Korean War and strengthen courtesy for their bereaved families.

Korea Post under the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs signed an agreement on June 30 to award honour plaques to bereaved families of soldiers and police killed in the Korean War.

The agreement was designed to honour the noble sacrifice of those who devoted themselves to the country and to provide dignified courtesy services to elderly bereaved families. The two agencies plan to use the nationwide network of post offices and letter carriers to deliver the plaques by visiting families’ homes in person.

Deliveries will be carried out in stages from 2026, giving priority to elderly bereaved families. Letter carriers will also provide a service in which they deliver the plaque, complete a checklist and send back the survey results.

Korea Post will carry out home-delivery work based on its nationwide postal infrastructure and letter carrier network. The veterans ministry will support the programme by producing the plaques, selecting recipients and helping operate the project.

The two agencies plan to use the agreement to strengthen social courtesy for national merit recipients and their families and expand tailored welfare and administrative support services using post office public infrastructure.

Park In-hwan (박인환), head of Korea Post, said it will continue to expand public services using the post office network.
