Kakao on Wednesday nominated former Woowa Brothers CTO Song Jaeha as its new chief technology officer to oversee companywide technology operations and platform stability. Song is expected to be formally appointed this month and begin work.
The appointment was made to boost platform trust by stabilising data infrastructure and server technology. A Kakao official said Song has experience building platform technology systems and operating services with tens of millions of users at companies including Woowa Brothers and Yanolja. The official said Kakao expects him to contribute to leading the company’s overall technology operations in a stable manner based on that experience.
Born in 1973, Song graduated from Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in Korean language and literature and earned a master’s degree in software engineering at KAIST. He built broad experience across the IT industry, including as a team leader at NCsoft Openmaru Studio and as a leader of the Data Infrastructure Team at SK Planet.
Song has led key technology projects at major IT companies. At NCsoft, he worked on building web infrastructure and studied ways to use big data. As CTO at Yanolja, he led security enhancements and global service launches, and was evaluated as having improved customer trust. At Woowa Brothers, he focused on adopting future technologies including the AI project “Baemin David” and the autonomous driving robot “Dilly.”
Separately, Kakao’s current CTO, Gyudon Jung, is expected to step down when his term ends.
