Adobe is acquiring Topaz Labs, an AI model company for image and video enhancement.

TechCrunch reported on June 25 that Adobe plans to fold Topaz Labs into its creative business division and integrate its AI models into its editing product lineup.

Topaz Labs has developed tools to improve video and image quality for more than 20 years. It won an Emmy last year for production technology. It recently released an AI model for video upscaling called Astra and an image retouching and enhancement tool called Wonder. It also developed technology to run large video models more easily on consumer GPUs.

Adobe already offers some Topaz Labs tools in Creative Cloud. It plans to integrate Topaz Labs models into the Firefly AI app and other image and video editing products. Topaz Labs' service will continue to be offered as a standalone product via its website.

Dipa Subramaniam (디파 수브라마니암), vice president of product marketing for Adobe Creative Cloud, said professionals using both live-action footage and AI-generated clips can use Topaz Labs products to sharpen detail, reduce noise and restore archived footage. She said Topaz Labs has expertise in optimising large and complex AI models to run directly on devices.

Adobe competes with Canva and Blackmagic Design in the image and video editing market. It has been expanding AI features across its apps and growing an AI-based media editing lineup centred on Firefly. The deal is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
