[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee (이윤서)] An image forecasting bitcoin would reach $145,000 in October 2026, originating from the anonymous community 4chan, is spreading again on social media. But some point out it is hard to trust because the source is difficult to verify and key figures contain errors.

Cointelegraph reported on June 18 that the image was shared by the cryptocurrency account Corleone and is in the format of an anonymous post written in late December 2018. The image lists bitcoin target prices from October 2019 to October 2026, with the final target set at $145,000.

On the surface, some price levels match the actual trend. Bitcoin traded around $67,000 in November 2021 and around $16,000 in November 2022.

The problem is there is no way to confirm whether the image is an original written at the time. The capture has no archive link, author identification information or any mark that can distinguish a 4chan user. Because anonymous posts are the default on 4chan, it is difficult to prove whether the prices were predicted in advance or edited afterward unless the archived original exists.

Another post with similar wording was also found. A post uploaded to Binance Square in July 2024 shared the phrase, "We currently hold about 90% of the total bitcoin supply," along with several price targets, but it put the bitcoin price in September 2024 at $105,400. By contrast, the recently circulated image changes that point in time to $74,000 and adds a target of $145,000 for October 2026. That increases the possibility of editing and suggests it may have been revised later to fit past bitcoin price moves.

The market-cap calculation also does not add up. The image says the forecast would produce a bitcoin market value of $5.7 trillion and a bitcoin dominance of 40 to 47 percent. But applying $145,000 per bitcoin and circulating supply of about 20.04 million bitcoins puts bitcoin market value at about $2.9 trillion. Even applying the maximum supply of 21 million bitcoins leaves it at about $3.05 trillion. Even if $5.7 trillion refers to the overall crypto market, the wording is unclear, making it difficult to support the authenticity of the forecast.

The supply claim is also far from reality. The image’s author claimed to hold 90% of supply, but 90% of about 20.04 million bitcoins currently in circulation amounts to about 18 million bitcoins. The top 100 bitcoin addresses hold about 15.27% of total supply, according to BitInfoCharts. Even combining the top 10,000 addresses totals about 53.89%. That is a big gap from the holding share cited by the image’s author.

As a result, the claim that an anonymous 4chan user accurately predicted major bitcoin price moves through 2026 remains unverified for now. The image is seen less as evidence from a trader who matched past records than as a post that may have reused or edited existing crypto memes.
