[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Construction machinery brand Caterpillar is partnering with Nvidia to introduce AI and automation technologies into construction equipment, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 7 (local time).
The companies will equip the medium mini excavator Cat 306 CR with an AI assistant system. It will respond to operator questions, provide work safety tips and help manage service schedules.
The technology is based on the Nvidia Jetson Thor physical AI platform. Caterpillar is also testing technology that uses Nvidia Omniverse simulation resources to build digital twins of construction sites and forecast project material requirements.
The company said it is operating fully autonomous vehicles in the mining industry and that the AI system will be an important turning point in construction machinery automation.
