SK Telecom said on Tuesday that customers showed high satisfaction with fee discounts and additional data benefits under its “Responsibility and Promise” programme carried out in the wake of last year’s cyber intrusion incident.
SKT conducted a survey of 4,978 customers from Jan. 2 to 5 through its “Money-Earning Survey” service, asking which compensation measure in its customer compensation programme had the greatest perceived impact.
The survey found satisfaction was highest with a 50 percent fee discount offered for one month in August last year, chosen by 3,419 respondents, or 68.7 percent. Customers also responded favourably to an additional 50 gigabytes of data provided from August to December, selected by 2,465 respondents, or 49.5 percent.
A total of 24 million SKT and SKT budget-phone customers received the 50 percent fee discount benefit. Asked about satisfaction with the level of the discount, 58.7 percent of respondents said they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied”. By age group, customers in their teens to 30s accounted for 60.7 percent, higher than those aged 40 and above at 57.2 percent.
The additional data compensation was particularly popular among customers in their teens. Some 73 percent of teen customers said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the additional data, a higher satisfaction level than the all-ages average of 68.7 percent.
SKT also implemented a “Customer Peace of Mind Package” that included free SIM replacements, in addition to the customer appreciation package that included such benefits, and measures including waiving early termination fees for customers who left through number portability. SKT carried out free SIM replacements for all customers through its nationwide distribution network immediately after the intrusion incident. More than 10 million SKT customers have replaced their SIM cards so far.
SKT also prepared benefits to win back customers who left. If customers who terminated service with SKT due to the intrusion incident return within 36 months, SKT will restore their membership tenure and T Membership tier based on the criteria before termination.
