A personal electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) that can be flown without a pilot licence appeared at CES 2026. Indiana-based aviation startup LEO Flight unveiled the LEO JetBike, a personal aircraft that removes conventional propellers and adopts electric jet propulsion, and began taking pre-orders.

Electric vehicle outlet Electrek reported on Monday that LEO Flight, founded in 2021, is a relatively young aviation startup aiming for "fast, practical and safe air mobility for everyone". The co-founders have drawn attention since early on by unveiling a concept for a coupe-style flying car based on electric jetpack technology.

The JetBike unveiled at CES 2026 is seen as a more realistic form of personal air mobility. LEO Flight said it enhanced safety by using a fully ducted electric jet propulsion system instead of the exposed propellers commonly used by existing eVTOLs. The company said the JetBike has already completed extensive testing and validation and has entered a stage geared toward commercialization.

In key specifications, the maximum flight altitude is limited to about 15 feet by electronic controls, and top speed is capped at about 60 miles per hour, or about 96 km per hour. Flight time per charge is about 10 to 15 minutes, and noise is about 80 decibels. The aircraft has a roll-hoop safety frame to protect the rider and is designed for home charging. The required footprint is relatively small at about 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet. The company said it uses all-solid-state batteries, but it has not been confirmed whether the same battery will be used in the mass-production model.

A notable point is that it does not require a pilot licence. The LEO JetBike is designed to comply with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's Part 103 ultralight aircraft rules, allowing ordinary individuals to fly under certain conditions. This is similar to the approach taken by competitors such as Jetson and Pivotal, which have unveiled propeller-based eVTOLs.

Carlos Salaf, LEO Flight co-founder and head of design, said the goal is to lower the barriers of traditional personal aviation. He said jet propulsion provides both safety and ease of control.

Following the CES unveiling, LEO Flight is also running a VIP programme called the Pioneer Club for the first 100 people. Customers who join the programme will receive access to live demonstration events, exclusive merchandise and priority access to future product development.

The LEO JetBike can currently be pre-ordered with a $1,000 deposit, and the sale price is set at $99,900. Deliveries are expected to begin from the fourth quarter of 2026. The aircraft will be displayed during CES 2026 at booth 3149 in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

LEO Flight also said it plans to officially unveil a coupe-style flying car model later this year, drawing attention to its moves in the personal air mobility market.
