Parts maker GI Tech said on Tuesday it has started supplying a pump system, a key piece of secondary battery process equipment, to LG Energy Solution.
GI Tech said it has completed an upgrade of its pump system products based on its proprietary slot-die technology. It said it has expanded its business scope by securing LG Energy Solution as a customer after Samsung SDI. The company said it has met LG Energy Solution’s quality standards, including minimising pulsation and controlling foreign substances.
The pump system is used in an insulation coating process to prevent battery fires. It is responsible for supplying a fixed amount of high-viscosity insulating liquid to the slot die without pulsation. GI Tech said it developed a solution that improves flow control precision and enhances bubble removal performance by applying fluid control technology that prevents slurry sedimentation and incorporating slot-die design know-how into pump engineering.
GI Tech said it is currently conducting technical verification and specification consultations with global customers. The company is pursuing entry into the market for new line installations and retrofitting ageing facilities. It plans to expand from entering the North American market this year to European production bases such as Hungary in 2027.
Lee In-young, GI Tech’s chairman, said, "Based on unrivalled ultra-precision fluid control technology, we will also raise the share of localisation in the systems equipment field." He added, "Through aggressive sales activities, we will focus company-wide capabilities so we can set a meaningful milestone in the global secondary battery equipment market."
