OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman has postponed his scheduled visit to South Korea.

OpenAI said on June 12 that it had delayed Altman's trip to Asia, including South Korea, due to unavoidable personal circumstances. It did not disclose specific reasons.

Altman had been set to enter the country on June 14 and carry out a two-day, one-night schedule that included sequential visits to Samsung Electronics, Kakao and Naver on June 15.

The trip would have been his first visit to South Korea in about 8 months since October last year, and expectations were high for progress in existing artificial intelligence partnerships and announcements of new cooperation.

An OpenAI official said, "Korea is a very important country for OpenAI and a strategic partner." The official added, "Cooperation under way with local partners will continue as planned."

The official also said, "I hope to visit Korea again soon and be able to say hello in person."
