[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee (이지영)] KakaoPay will take part in simple payments for Busan Metro mobile tickets. Passengers can scan QR codes placed at stations to buy a single-ride ticket on a smartphone, which the company said it expects will reduce waits at ticket machines and congestion inside stations.

KakaoPay said on June 12 it will roll out simple payments for "dynamic QR mobile tickets" at major Busan subway stations with Busan Transportation Corp and security QR solution firm Arch Seoul.

Dynamic QR mobile tickets are Busan Metro's online-to-offline linked ticketing system that lets passengers issue tickets on a smartphone. When passengers scan a QR code placed at a station, they can pay for and download a Busan Metro single-ride ticket with KakaoPay on their smartphone.

The company said passengers can buy tickets on mobile without lining up in front of ticket machines, which it said will improve convenience for transit users.

Payment methods include credit and debit cards and simple payments. Among domestic simple payment services, KakaoPay is the only one that supports payment. Users of overseas simple payment services linked with KakaoPay can also pay, including those in China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

A KakaoPay official said, "We will expand the payment experience across online and offline to reduce inconvenience users face in daily life."
