The Korea Exchange's Kosdaq Market Committee recommended Kim Woo-chan (김우찬), a professor at Korea University Business School, as candidate chair of the Kosdaq Market Committee.

The Korea Exchange said the Kosdaq Market Committee made the recommendation at its 11th meeting held on June 11.

Kim is expected to be appointed as chair of the Kosdaq Market Committee at the Korea Exchange's second extraordinary general meeting of shareholders in its second term, scheduled for July 6. The appointment process proceeds from the committee's recommendation to shareholder approval.

The Korea Exchange said Kim has professional knowledge in finance and is an expert in corporate governance. Kim has served as deputy director and steering committee chair at the Good Corporate Governance Research Institute, head of the Economic Reform Research Institute and head of the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice.

Born in 1967, Kim graduated from Seoul National University's Department of International Economics. He later earned master's and doctoral degrees in policy, specialising in finance, at Harvard University.

His main career includes serving as an administrative officer at the Ministry of Finance's International Organizations Division, an administrative officer at the Ministry of Finance and Economy's Foreign Currency Funds Division, a professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management and an associate professor at Korea University Business School.

He is currently a professor at Korea University Business School and serves as an advisory member of the Growth Economy Subcommittee of the National Economic Advisory Council, chair of the Financial Supervisory Service's Financial Supervision Advisory Committee and an outside director at Korea Development Bank.

The chair of the Kosdaq Market Committee participates in key decision-making related to operating the Kosdaq market and improving its systems. If appointed at the shareholders' meeting, Kim will take on tasks aimed at strengthening the Kosdaq market's competitiveness and enhancing market trust.
