LG CNS said on June 11 it signed a memorandum of understanding with integrated logistics company LX Pantos to build robot-based next-generation smart logistics.
The companies will build a logistics automation system at LX Pantos' Mega Wise Cheongna logistics center linking humanoid robots with shuttle robots. They plan to verify full-process automation in which shuttle robots bring out items scheduled for shipment, humanoid robots load them onto automatic sorting equipment, and sorted items are shipped by destination.
They will use their own platform, PhysicalWorks Forge, for robot training and the integrated control platform PhysicalWorks Baton for operations. Robots will be trained based on LX Pantos' on-site logistics data.
For hardware, they will use a wheel-type humanoid robot from Dexmate, a U.S. robotics specialist in which LG CNS invested in March, and an in-house logistics robot called Mobile Shuttle. Mobile Shuttle moves at 1.5 metres per second and can load and carry up to 1,500 kg per unit.
The companies will build a proof-of-concept space for logistics automation processes, the Tech Driven Logistics Lab, in the second half of this year, and will also pursue commercialisation of their logistics robot business for external customers.
Park Sang-gyun (박상균), an executive director and head of LG CNS' Telecommunications and Distribution Services Division, said, "We will continue to contribute to improving productivity and operational efficiency at logistics sites together with LX Pantos."
