Naver Cloud said on Wednesday it held a "Sovereign AI-based Defence AX Development Strategy Seminar" and unveiled a defence AI strategy applicable to the battlefield.

Yu Kyung-beom (유경범), an executive director at Naver Cloud, presented the omnimodal AI model "HyperCLOVA X Omni", which integrates text, voice, video and maps into a single operational situation. He also presented forward-deployed engineers (FDE) as a core element of defence AI sovereignty.

Yu cited as a strength of Naver Cloud a defence-only AI data centre configuration that links a central data centre, which integrates and trains on data from the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with an edge data centre that can respond even when communications are cut off.

Jung Nak-su (정낙수), an executive director at Naver Cloud, presented a plan to connect data dispersed across the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps on an ontology basis, convert it into a knowledge system that understands meaning and context, and implement it in a military decision support system. Jung said an on-premises cloud that guarantees complete data control was an essential prerequisite to protect military secrets. He proposed sovereign AI combining Naver Cloud's on-premises cloud and HyperCLOVA X as the basis for a defence AI integrated architecture.

In the final session, Ahn Hyun-jin (안현진), a director at Enhance, a startup for an AI agent operating system, introduced technology that automatically extracts key information from unstructured data such as operation orders and battlefield information. He said multiple AI agents can collaborate to draft an operations plan within 10 minutes.
