SK Telecom is expanding point benefits for its unlocked-device-only mobile service app Air.

SKT said on Wednesday it will open point benefits so any Air app member can earn and use points even without subscribing to an Air plan.

Air, launched in October last year, is a service tailored for customers with unlocked devices. It offered simplified plans with 6 data tiers and point benefits that can also be used to pay bills, along with a convenient app environment, and drew steady popularity.

Air app members have been able to earn points by completing missions in the app, but point use was allowed only for Air plan subscribers. SKT revamped the service so app members who are not subscribed to an Air plan can also use points accumulated through ad-based missions. Those points can be used at a point shop that offers more than 1,000 types of products.

SKT also improved benefits for Air plan subscribers. Points earned through 3 ad-based missions recently added to the Air app can be used additionally to pay bills even if they exceed the existing monthly limit of 5,000 points. It also improved the app screen layout so users can check available points immediately on the first screen.

SKT will run a promotion marking the revamp through June 30. Through a "100 won deal" mission for members who are not subscribed to a plan, users who collect just 100 points can buy a popular item from the point shop once a week for 100 points.

For new Air plan customers, SKT will run a promotion that adds an extra 10 times the points earned when completing 3 new missions after signing up: scratch lottery, correct match prediction points and point mission.

Koo Hyun-cheol (구현철), head of sales and marketing at SKT, said, "We will give new enjoyment to members without plan subscriptions and practical benefits that let existing Air plan customers save more on telecom expenses." He said, "Air will continue to quickly spot and improve inconveniences in existing telecom services."
