Shinhan Bank has launched an internal training organisation to raise AI capabilities across its workforce and foster key talent in AX and Web3. It aims to strengthen the bank's ability to execute digital transformation by developing finance-specialised AI agents and reviewing new businesses in digital assets.
Shinhan Bank said on June 10 it officially launched the "AX-Web3 Academy" on June 9.
The AX-Web3 Academy is an internal talent development organisation designed to help Shinhan Bank employees shift into "AI natives" who can use AI naturally across their work.
Shinhan Bank will expand AI training for about 12,000 employees. Among them, it plans to train 1,000 as key experts in AX and Web3 to strengthen in-house technology capabilities and application in business operations.
The academy focuses on solving workplace tasks and carrying out practical projects rather than on basic instruction. It will identify AI-use models that can be applied to improve efficiency by department and enhance customer experience, with development of finance-specialised "vertical agents" as a major task.
To do that, Shinhan Bank recruited 4 external experts in AX and Web3 as full-time professors. In AX, Kwang-shin Choi (최광신) and Hee-sun Kim (김희선) will support AI modelling, data analysis and coaching for workplace projects.
In Web3, Cheol Choi (최철) and Jae-uk Jeong (정재욱) will handle reviews of digital assets, blockchain-based new businesses and Web3 finance models.
A group of 8 experts from academia and industry will also participate as "AX-Web3 technology partners". They will provide technology validation and advice on direction in areas including AI agent development, prompt engineering, AI governance and security, digital-asset legal and compliance, and custody infrastructure.
In AX, Kyung-rok Lee (이경록), chief executive of Braincrew, and Su-jin Kang (강수진), chief executive of The Prompt Company, will support AI agent development and prompt engineering. Seong-ju Hwang (황성주), a professor at KAIST, and Dae-young Park (박대영), a senior researcher at the Financial Security Institute's AI Innovation Department, will present technical guidelines related to AI governance and security, safety and reliability.
In Web3, Hye-jin Park (박혜진), a professor at Sogang University, and Seo-hee Han (한서희), a lawyer at Bae, Kim & Lee, will discuss strategy and direction for new businesses. Seong-il Cho (조성일), chief executive of KDAC, will support building digital-asset custody infrastructure, and Pil-su Kim (김필수), a senior researcher at the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute, will support strategy-making in response to moves to institutionalise digital assets.
A Shinhan Bank official said, "The AX-Web3 Academy is a talent development organisation designed to help all employees use AI naturally in their work and directly lead the technological innovation needed on the financial front lines." The official added, "Based on AI and digital technologies, we will continue to provide customers with a differentiated financial experience."
