[Digital Today intern reporter Kyungmin Hong] As information about Apple's first foldable iPhone continues to emerge, the product’s outline is becoming clearer, including display size, camera configuration, biometric authentication and its color strategy.

On June 7 (local time), IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that photos of a foldable iPhone dummy model released by well-known IT tipster Sonny Dickson revealed a large amount of detail on the device’s overall exterior design, an innovative hinge structure and its color lineup.

According to the leaked dummy, the foldable iPhone will offer a main display of about 7.8 inches when unfolded, securing a front screen area similar to an iPad mini. When fully opened, the front-facing camera is placed inside the display at the top-left corner. By contrast, the external display exposed when the device is folded is about 5.5 inches. When closed, the overall screen aspect ratio is slightly shorter and wider than existing iPhone models, with a passport-like form factor.

As changes in the exterior and display configuration have been confirmed, attention is also turning to the camera and biometric authentication system. The internal screen will have 1 front camera, while the outside will feature 2 rear cameras. In particular, the foldable model is expected to adopt Touch ID integrated into the side button instead of Face ID, which has become a core feature of premium iPhones. Users would use it to unlock the device and authenticate Apple Pay payments.

The color strategy is also drawing attention. Earlier, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman forecast that the foldable iPhone would be released in 2 colors: black and white. Dickson, however, raised the possibility that it may be offered only in white. An analysis says this aligns with Apple's previous strategy of limiting colors early in a new product’s release and then gradually expanding options.

In fact, the original iPhone and iPad were sold in a single color at launch, with later models offering more color choices. The iPhone X also came in only 2 colors, silver and space gray, and the latest iPhone 17 Pro has been released in 3 colors, fewer than the previous generation.

The market, meanwhile, is citing hardware completeness and hinge technology as the foldable iPhone’s core competitive strengths. Many sources forecast that the display crease will be improved to a level that is almost invisible to the naked eye. Apple also has the strength of being able to deliver a rich software experience from the initial release by leveraging its established iPad app ecosystem. Against that backdrop, attention is focusing on whether iOS 27, set to be unveiled at 2 a.m. on June 9 Korea time, will offer clues about a foldable-specific user experience.
