The National Information Society Agency (NIA) said on June 8 it held its 2026 Network Testbed Technical Committee on June 5 with experts from industry, academia and research institutes in attendance.

Based on the results of a Delphi survey conducted since the committee was launched in September last year, it focused discussions on ways to draw up a roadmap to upgrade an international standards-based wireless network testbed that industry, academia and research institutes are seeking. It also reviewed plans to build a leading open and intelligent RAN testbed for physical AI.

The committee also proposed a phased direction for upgrades to implement an AI-native 6G testbed. An AI-native network is a next-generation network that embeds AI across overall network operations. NIA will develop the open and intelligent RAN testbed environment and use it as an open AI testing and verification environment at the national level.

NIA President Hyung-chul Kim (김형철) said, "As the convergence of physical AI and networks accelerates, we will work to secure global competitiveness in the AI network sector through upgrading the testbed."
