KB Kookmin Bank is moving to verify next-generation authentication security technology to respond to security threats stemming from the commercialisation of quantum computers.

KB Kookmin Bank said on June 5 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Aton on June 4 on verifying technology for an authentication system based on post-quantum cryptography.

Post-quantum cryptography is a next-generation cryptographic technology designed to maintain security even against attacks by quantum computers.

The agreement was set up to prepare for future security threats from the commercialisation of quantum computers and to strengthen the system for protecting customers' financial information by using next-generation security technology.

Through the agreement, KB Kookmin Bank plans to verify whether it can provide secure authentication services even in a quantum computing environment. It will also check whether post-quantum cryptography can be applied to key financial transactions such as logins, transfers and electronic signatures.

A KB Kookmin Bank official said, "As the digital finance environment changes rapidly, safely protecting customer information and financial assets is the most important responsibility." The official added, "We will actively introduce next-generation security technology to provide safe and reliable financial services."

Separately, KB Kookmin Bank also signed a strategic partnership with global AI CRM company Salesforce on June 4 for corporate finance innovation.

The agreement was set up to improve corporate customers' business operating efficiency and provide a data-driven management environment. The two sides plan to combine Salesforce's platform technology and KB Kookmin Bank's embedded finance capabilities to build an integrated portal supporting the entire business process.
