Gemini integrated into Google Forms can now automatically generate surveys using only natural-language prompts and summarise the key points of collected responses.

TechRadar reported on June 4 that the feature is aimed at reducing the time needed to structure survey questions and analyse responses.

Users can create a survey draft in Google Forms by selecting a prepared template or entering a prompt directly. For example, if a user asks it to include multiple-choice questions and a final open-ended question on taste, sweetness level and digestive issues for a coffee-flavoured protein powder three months after launch, Gemini generates a survey preview within seconds. Users can then edit questions or add images, text and sections after creating the form.

In response analysis, the summary function for open-ended questions is central. Existing Google Forms provides charts and graphs for multiple-choice responses, but users had to read and organise open-ended answers themselves. With the update, Gemini compiles common themes, frequently mentioned issues and key suggestions when users run the summary function in the Responses tab. It groups similar opinions and also separates positive and negative reactions.

Gemini functions in Google Forms are limited, and users cannot continue a conversation with Gemini within Forms to analyse results as they can in Google Sheets or Docs. If more detailed analysis is needed, the data must be linked to Google Sheets.

Data exported to Google Sheets is automatically organised in table form and is then added row by row each time new responses are generated. Users can then enter natural-language prompts in the Gemini side panel in Sheets to check hidden trends, detailed statistics and insights.

The feature is not offered for free. Individual users need a Google One AI Premium plan, while business users must use the Google Workspace Standard plan, which costs $14 per user per month, or about 21,600 won. A plan costing $7 per user per month, or about 10,000 won, does not include Gemini functions for Workspace tools.

The feature appears to target the fact that question design, structuring and response analysis remain cumbersome tasks. The core of the feature is that it links a survey tool and spreadsheet-based analysis into a single flow. But as it requires paid plans, actual usage is expected to vary depending on how often users create surveys and their demand for data analysis.
