[Digital Today reporter Dae-geon Seok (석대건)] A delivery platform moving to reduce disposable packaging expanded benefits for customers ordering with reusable containers to mark Environment Day. Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok (Baemin), said on June 5, Environment Day, it will give dedicated discount coupons to customers placing food delivery orders with reusable containers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event runs through June 22. From 11 a.m. each day, the first 600 people to order food in reusable containers will receive a 5,000 won discount coupon. The coupon is only for reusable-container food delivery, and each person can receive it up to 3 times. The minimum order amount is 10,000 won.

It is also running a review event. During the event period, customers who order with reusable containers and write a photo review including the word "reusable container" will be entered into a draw, and 500 winners will receive a separate 10,000 won discount coupon on July 1. To place a reusable-container order, users can type "reusable container" into the Baemin app search bar and then select "use reusable container" in the store request section.

Baemin also released "reusable-container delivery star menus" after analysing order data from the past 6 months. It selected items including malatang, tteokbokki, jjimdak, spicy stir-fried pork, and pasta. The company said foods that taste best when eaten hot made the popular list because reusable containers are relatively better at keeping food warm and cold. Baemin introduced a "no disposable spoons and forks" option in 2019, the first among delivery apps, and it is estimated to have reduced a cumulative 10.2 billion disposable items through December last year.

A Baemin official said, "We are holding this event to actively promote the use of reusable containers to commemorate Environment Day," and added, "We will continue to run various marketing efforts so customers can take part in reducing disposable items, including through the use of reusable containers."
