Uber has released data on lost items reported inside vehicles over the past 10 years. The most commonly forgotten item was a mobile phone, and unusual items such as dentures, breast milk, live fish and large aquariums were also recorded.
Online media outlet Gigazine reported on Tuesday that Uber released lost-property data from the past 10 years to mark the 10th anniversary of the Uber Lost & Found Index.
The report showed the most frequently found item in Uber vehicles was a mobile phone. It was followed by wallets, luggage and other bags, keys, headphones, clothing, passports, glasses, jewelry and laptops, which rounded out the top 10.
By city, New York had the highest number of lost items. Miami, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles followed, showing that larger cities tended to have more cases of lost property.
The report also highlighted a range of unusual items. Uber's list of the 50 most absurd lost items included dentures with two teeth attached, breast milk, human hair, an ankle monitor, 420 doughnuts, an oxygen tank, handcuffs, two wedding dresses and live butterflies.
There was also a case of someone leaving a live fish in a vehicle. Uber selected a large 75-gallon aquarium, or about 284 litres, as the most distinctive lost item representing 2026.
The report found that losses of certain trendy items have increased this year. Uber said products related to the popular character Labubu were frequently found, and it also named Crocs shoes, sports gear, dental-related items, hats and e-cigarettes as common lost items.
Uber also released timing data on when lost items are most common. The day with the most lost-item reports this year was July 17. Uber noted that the date was the day after the opening of a Lady Gaga concert tour and highlighted it as an interesting correlation.
By day of the week, Sunday had the highest number of lost items. IDs and wallets were most often lost on Monday, headphones on Tuesday, chargers on Wednesday, bags on Thursday, keys on Friday, mobile phones on Saturday and glasses on Sunday.
Among electronic devices, Nintendo Switches, drones, AirPods, Apple TV, Apple Pencils, PlayStation 4 consoles and AirTags were often found. Higher-priced items included Rolex watches, Gucci belts, Dior sandals, Hermes sandals and Burberry blankets.
The report also drew attention to representative lost items by year. In 2017 it recorded a lobster, in 2018 divorce papers, in 2019 a salmon head, and in 2021 a large portrait of Catherine, Princess of Wales. Uber selected a toy poodle in 2023, a fake buttocks in 2024 and a stuffed rabbit in 2025 as the most unusual lost items for those years.
Uber also operates in-app functions for reporting and returning lost items. Users can report a loss through the app's help menu and, if the driver confirms the item, receive a notification and proceed with the return process.
The function is currently available in some U.S. states, and Uber plans to expand the service nationwide within the year. The company said it aims to expand features so the platform handles lost-item management and recovery beyond ride-hailing.
