Uber will cut 23 percent of its human resources workforce, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

Dara Khosrowshahi (다라 코스로샤히), Uber's CEO, said in an internal memo it was a change needed to maximise the HR team’s effectiveness, the report said. The cuts will affect employees in recruiting and HR. Uber did not disclose the number of job cuts but said it was less than 1 percent of its 34,000 employees.

Jill Hazelbaker (질 해즐베이커), who was promoted last month to president and chief corporate affairs officer, said in a memo to affected staff that some parts were “complex and fragmented, with unclear accountability and too far removed from the business units they need to support”.

Uber did not cite AI as a direct reason for the cuts. But it confirmed that usage limits for employee agentic tools are set by tier. The base tier limit is $1,500 a month. The amount rises by tier.

Uber exceeded its 2026 AI budget in four months, The Information reported. An Uber spokesperson said in an email, “We have applied spend tiers to some agentic AI tools for the past few months.”
