Kakao Games is detailing the service name and schedule for its new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) as it targets the market in the third quarter.

Kakao Games said on Sunday it has confirmed the official title of Supercat's upcoming game, previously known as 'Project OQ', as 'World of Dokkaebi' and signalled a launch in the third quarter of this year. It plans to begin pre-registration in July ahead of full service.

World of Dokkaebi is a 2.5D MMORPG themed around dokkaebi from traditional Korean folk tales. It uses the Unity engine and incorporates Supercat's proprietary graphics technology to deliver a retro dot-graphic visual style.

Its combat system uses a skill-deck building approach that breaks down class boundaries, supporting tactical play tailored to users' play styles. Key content includes clan-based player-versus-environment (PvE) cooperative content and optional large-scale player-versus-player (PvP) content.

For the new service, the two companies plan to combine Kakao Games' publishing and live-service operations capabilities with Supercat's development capabilities. Kakao Games plans to release detailed information step by step, including specific content and the service schedule for World of Dokkaebi.

Supercat, the developer, was founded in 2016 and has developed games including 'Baramui Nara: Yeon', 'Dolkiwoogi Online' and 'Granny's House'. It has also established and operates the metaverse platform ZEP in a joint venture with Naver Z.
