South Korea's Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) said on Sunday they will hold the "2026 Digital Ethics Creative Content Contest" through Oct. 2.

The theme of the contest, now in its 17th year, is "Safe artificial intelligence (AI), shared digital ethics." It will be held in two categories: awareness-raising content and learning content.

The awareness-raising category is recruiting entries in illustrated diaries (for elementary school students), posters, card news, webtoons and videos (short-form and regular videos). The learning content category is seeking teaching and learning lesson plans that can be used for school education and creative experiential activities.

Judging will begin in October with a review of format requirements, followed by external expert evaluation, public participation judging and an awards screening to determine the final rankings. A total of 25 winners will be selected. One grand prize winner will receive a presidential award and 2 million won in prize money, and one top excellence winner will receive a prime minister's award and 1.5 million won. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in December at the "2026 Digital Ethics Expo."

Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chair of the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission, said, "With the spread of generative AI, social interest in digital ethics is increasing." He added, "This contest will serve as an opportunity to spread a culture of trust and responsibility."
