Nintendo has eased purchase conditions for the "Nintendo Switch 2" sold on the My Nintendo Store.

Japan's ITmedia reported on Monday that Nintendo on May 25 removed a requirement of "at least 50 hours of play time" from the purchase conditions for the "Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese, domestic only)" and the "Nintendo Switch 2 (multilingual support)" on its direct sales site.

The move effectively lowers the criteria used to screen existing users by one step. Until now, to buy a Switch 2 on the My Nintendo Store, buyers had to have "at least 50 hours of play time" on the Nintendo Switch 1 as of 23:59 on Dec. 21, 2025. This condition is no longer required.

Limits on the number of units that can be purchased per account remain unchanged. Nintendo allows only 1 unit of each of the 2 models per Nintendo account. Logging into a Nintendo account also remains mandatory during the purchase process. This means the easing of conditions does not amount to a switch to unlimited purchases.

Pricing policy also changed the same day. The suggested retail price for the "Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese, domestic only)" was raised to 59,980 yen from 49,980 yen. The multilingual model kept its price at 69,980 yen. Nintendo has effectively adjusted its sales policy by lowering entry conditions for the Japan-only model while raising its price.

The change also affects how the direct sales channel is operated. With the play-time requirement removed, accounts without extensive Switch usage history can be included among eligible buyers. At the same time, the quantity limit and login requirement remain, meaning the account-based management approach continues.

Nintendo also left open the possibility of additional adjustments depending on sales. The company said it could change purchase conditions and the number of units that can be purchased depending on sales going forward. This means current criteria are not fixed policy and could be adjusted again in line with supply and demand flows.

Ultimately, the core of this adjustment has two tracks. It eliminated the 50-hour play-time condition, a usage-history standard, to improve accessibility, and it raised the price of the Japanese, domestic-only model by 10,000 yen. It kept the purchase quantity limit and the account login requirement, leaving sales control measures in place. How much more Nintendo will revise conditions and quantity limits to match actual sales conditions will be closely watched.

Regarding sales of the "Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese, domestic only)" and "Nintendo Switch 2 (multilingual support)" on the My Nintendo Store, we will change the conditions required for purchase as follows from Monday, May 25, 2026. <Before the change> - As of 23:59 on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, Nintendo...
