South Korea’s KOSPI rose for a third straight day on Jan. 6 and broke above the 4,500 mark for the first time.
The KOSPI ended up 67.96 points, or 1.52 percent, at 4,525.48.
After first topping 4,300 on Jan. 2, the KOSPI cleared 4,400 a day earlier and then surpassed 4,500 within a day.
The index opened down 11.44 points, or 0.26 percent, at 4,446.08 and extended losses, at one point slipping below 4,400. It later turned higher and extended gains, ending the session at an intraday high.
The Kosdaq fell 1.53 points, or 0.16 percent, to 955.97, turning lower for the first time in 3 sessions.
