Neowiz said on Tuesday it delivered 10 million won in donations raised through user participation in its board game Pmang New Matgo to the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea (Love Bean).
The donation event was planned on the idea that Pmang New Matgo’s “Family (guild)” could go beyond a simple game community and become “another family” for youth in need.
The event ran for about four weeks from Nov. 26 to Dec. 21 last year. It linked donation scores to “Help” activities in which Family members exchange hearts and support each other’s growth, so cooperation among members would naturally lead to sharing. Donations were then made in the names of the top three Families with the highest combined scores, adding meaning to the giving.
About 36,000 users took part in the campaign. The Families selected as the final donation winners were first-place PANTHEON, second-place Eclipse and third-place LOcheon-saeng-yeon-bunVE, which recorded the highest activity scores.
The 10 million won donated is to be used through the Gyeonggi Love Bean for a scholarship support programme for at-risk youth in Seongnam.
A Neowiz official said the company wanted to offer the experience that participation in a game can provide practical help to someone. The official thanked users who joined in and said the company would continue various activities that put sharing into practice through games.
