Japan's three megabanks are expected to secure access to Anthropic's AI model Mythos within two weeks, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

A source familiar with the matter said Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Mizuho Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group are expected to secure access to Mythos.

All three banks declined to comment and Anthropic did not respond, Reuters said.

Mythos has raised concerns among cybersecurity experts that it could pose a serious threat to legacy technology systems in the banking sector. Warnings from regulators and policymakers have also followed. Anthropic has so far granted access to Mythos to U.S. banks and plans to expand it to banks in Europe and Britain.

On May 12, Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama (가타야마 사쓰키) said after meeting U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that a public-private working group would be set up this week to respond to the cybersecurity risks Mythos poses to Japan's financial system. The first meeting is expected to be held on Thursday.
