KT’s cumulative departures approached 80,000 in the six days since it began waiving cancellation fees.

The telecom industry said on Jan. 6 that 79,055 subscribers moved from KT to other carriers from Dec. 31 last year, when the waiver began, to Jan. 5.

On Jan. 5, the number of KT subscribers leaving hit a daily high of 26,394 as activations from Sunday (Jan. 4), when systems were shut down, were reflected. The assessment is that departures from KT are accelerating further.

Many of those who left KT switched to SK Telecom. Of the 26,394 who left that day, 19,392 moved to SKT. Another 4,888 moved to LG Uplus. Some 2,114 moved to budget carriers. Including budget carriers, 73.4 percent of those leaving KT chose SKT.
