AI storytelling lab PROM director Kim Woo-jung (김우정) will publish a book on May 8 titled "Story Engineering," which presents an original creative methodology for creators in the AI era.
At the heart of the book is the author’s "Chain of Story" (CoS) framework. Reinterpreting Chain of Thought (CoT) for storytelling, the method is based on the premise that “a good story does not come out all at once.” It builds a polished narrative step by step along a chain: generated title, logline, characters, outline, scenes, screenplay, treatment and editing.
The author describes it as a prompting methodology that links key elements step by step to complete a narrative when creating stories with AI. He says it differs from existing collections of fragmented prompts.
In addition to the CoS framework, the book also covers a methodology called "Heuristic Prompting." The author said it is an approach that combines creators’ intuition with AI logic, strategically designing dialogue with AI and encompassing the entire creative process of discovering unexpected insights along the way.
“The most important thing in collaborating with AI is leadership,” the author said. “It is not being led by AI, but using AI strategically. This is the survival strategy for storytellers in the AI era,” he added.
The book also introduces the concept of a “story assistant” as a tool to automate and personalise the Chain of Story framework. The focus is on building an environment in which conversations can begin with AI already aware of the project context, without having to explain everything from scratch each time.
Kim began creating stories with AI and producing content in 2023. He founded AI storytelling lab PROM in 2024.
