SK Telecom said on April 27 it will introduce a new "family care" feature on A.Dot Phone that immediately alerts a guardian to a suspected voice phishing call.
According to Police Agency statistics, the number of voice phishing crimes in the first quarter of 2025 was 5,878 cases, up 17 percent from the same period a year earlier. The loss per case was 53.01 million won, up 188 percent. SKT plans to prevent damage by enabling guardians to intervene quickly before a voice phishing loss occurs through A.Dot Phone Family Care.
The Family Care feature sends an immediate alert to a pre-registered guardian when artificial intelligence detects signs of suspected voice phishing during a call. Guardians can receive alerts regardless of whether they have installed A.Dot Phone or which carrier they use. For guardians who have A.Dot Phone installed, push notifications and text messages are sent at the same time, while non-users receive an alert by text message.
Up to 10 guardians can be registered per user. For SKT users, the family bundle list appears at the top, making registration easier. Users can also register acquaintances in addition to family members. Separately, Android device users will also have an emergency alert sent to guardians when they try to call emergency numbers 112 or 119.
A.Dot Phone has provided an AI voice phishing detection feature since November last year. Since March this year, it has advanced its detection method using voiceprint data.
Cho Hyun-deok (조현덕), who is in charge of SKT's A.Dot Phone, said, "We introduced the Family Care feature with the idea that, at the most dangerous moment, family and technology must become a barrier together." He added, "We will continue to develop the service so that AI can be a reliable companion by customers' side and protect everyday safety."
