The Ministry of Science and ICT is stepping up cooperation with the Ministry of Education to foster artificial intelligence (AI) talent.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education on April 24 held the first meeting of the “dedicated task force (TF) for cooperation on AI talent development” at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council’s main conference room.
The TF was formed as a follow-up measure to last month’s informal meeting on talent policy held between Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon (배경훈), who also serves as minister of science and ICT, and Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin (최교진). The TF will operate under a co-team leader system led by the vice ministers of each ministry.
The meeting discussed cooperation measures between the science ministry’s AI colleges and AI-focused universities and the education ministry’s AI hub universities. It also discussed 추진 on cooperation tasks under the Republic of Korea AI Action Plan and preparing guidelines for using generative AI in education.
Ryu Je-myung (류제명), second vice minister of science and ICT, said it was time for the two ministries to actively discuss a paradigm shift in AI talent development. He said the ministry would actively provide an advanced research environment and training infrastructure to create an ecosystem in which talent can grow into world-class AI experts.
Choi Eun-ok (최은옥), vice minister of education, said talent policy in the AI era is an agenda that requires collaboration across multiple ministries. She said she hopes the two ministries’ efforts to develop AI talent, starting with the first meeting, will create a mutually reinforcing effect.
