[DigitalToday reporter Ho-jeong Lee] Hound13, the developer of the new game 'Dragon Sword', rejected Webzen's request for an injunction to block it from self-publishing, saying it lawfully terminated the contract due to unpaid minimum guarantee (MG) payments.
On April 22, Hound13 posted a statement on its website, claiming Webzen failed to fulfill its obligation to pay the MG stipulated in the publishing contract. It said it lawfully terminated the publishing agreement on Feb. 13 in line with the contract procedures.
Hound13 said it had clearly conveyed its position to Webzen through several official written notices. It added, "Webzen's claim that the publishing agreement remains valid is unilateral, and the validity of the termination is a matter to be decided by the court."
Hound13 said that after the termination it holds independent service rights as the developer and copyright holder of 'Dragon Sword'. It said its preparations for a Steam service are based on lawful rights.
Hound13 said it will respond to Webzen's injunction request in accordance with legal procedures. 'Dragon Sword' is set to present a demo version in June and be released on Steam in July.
