[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee] KB Financial Group is holding a group-wide lights-out event and a participation event to mark Earth Day.
KB Financial said on April 22 it will switch off lights at major affiliate buildings and carry out an SNS-based participation campaign to mark Earth Day.
The government is operating April 20 to 25 as Climate Change Week, promoting a response to the climate crisis together with the international community and expanding public participation.
KB Financial will switch off lighting for 10 minutes from 8 p.m. at major buildings of 11 affiliates, including KB Kookmin Bank, KB Securities, KB Insurance and KB Kookmin Card. It will also run an SNS event, the "KB GOING Challenge with Koli", to encourage public participation.
Participants take photos of the lights-out scene, decorate them with character stickers and post them on their personal Instagram accounts. Those who leave comments on KB Financial's official SNS will be entered into a draw to receive prizes.
Separately, KB Financial is also expanding energy-saving measures. It has been running voluntary participation in an alternate-day vehicle scheme since April 10. Since March 25, it has operated a five-day rotation system for business vehicles and commuting vehicles to cut driving and encourage use of public transportation.
It has also strengthened measures to reduce energy use in facility operations. Since April 3, it has fully switched off landscape and signage lighting at its headquarters building after sunset, and it is maintaining only minimum illumination in low-use spaces such as meeting rooms and corridors.
A KB Financial official said, "Although it is a short lights-out time, it is meaningful as climate action that the public participates in together." The official added, "We will continue our ongoing role in responding to the climate crisis beyond a one-off event."
