[DigitalToday reporter Seulgi Son (손슬기)] The Broadcasting Media Communications Commission (BMC Commission) said on April 22 it will hold a forum on April 23 at the Korea Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Seoul, to ensure effective implementation of follow-up measures to the “Broadcasting Three Laws.”

The theme is “Institutional design for effective implementation of follow-up measures to the Broadcasting Three Laws.” The forum will focus on refining detailed standards that consider on-site application and establishing an implementation system.

Choi Young-mok (최영목), a professor in the Department of Media Content Convergence at Sungkonghoe University, will moderate the forum. Jang Dae-ho (장대호), acting director of the Broadcast Policy Bureau at the BMC Commission, will present the main content and the direction of the system design. Panelists will be Kwon Hyeong-dun (권형둔), a professor of law at Kongju National University, Heo Chan-haeng (허찬행), a professor in the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting at Konkuk University, Kang Yun-gi (강윤기), president of the Korea PD Union, and Kim Dong-won (김동원), policy director at the National Union of Mediaworkers.

The Broadcasting Three Laws were revised with the aim of improving the governance structure of public broadcasters and strengthening autonomy in programming and reporting. The Broadcasting Act was promulgated and took effect in August last year, and the Broadcasting Culture Promotion Association Act and the Korea Educational Broadcasting System Act were each promulgated and took effect in September last year. At its first full meeting on April 10, the BMC Commission received as a reported agenda a bill to enact and revise subordinate statutes and began the legislative notice process. The forum is part of a public consultation process to gather expert and public opinions during the notice period.
